Harvest of the Month in Action: Williston Central School Shines!

We love hearing about the amazing ways schools celebrate Harvest of the Month, and Williston Central School (WCS) has shared a shining example of the incredible work happening in their community!

In October, the WCS Farm to School Committee hosted a Delicata Squash Tasting, with three recipes for students to try. After school, WCS Jr. Iron Chefs, Garden Club members, and parent volunteers worked together for three days chopping, tasting, and prepping delicious squash dishes. The final creations were handed off to their fantastic Food Service Staff to bake, and the tasting event was led entirely by students, who served their peers and guided them on how to vote.

The results? Maple Roasted Delicata was a crowd favorite, closely followed by Parmesan Garlic Roasted Delicata and Delicata Apple Soup—all of which were a hit!

In December, the WCS Garden Club kept the HOM excitement going by preparing Sweet Potato Pancakes straight from the HOM website. Toppings included applesauce (plain and cinnamon), vanilla yogurt with maple syrup, and a sprinkle of cinnamon—yum!

Bravo to the WCS team for their creativity and dedication. The work of the students, staff, and parents to orchestrate these events demonstrates perfectly how schools can come together around seasonal, healthy food to create a unique and memorable learning opportunity. Thanks for sharing WCS Farm to School!
